The Second Backsplash

Despite my short blogging hiatus, I am still tired of the word "backsplash."  But since this is a blog about my house and we did just finish the rest of the backsplash in the kitchen, I have to share.

The final phases of the kitchen reno, seen herehere, and here, were complete and we were waiting on one backordered backsplash.  Given the space on the island left us little room for a backsplash, we didn't want to clutter it up with the large pattern that we put behind the stove:

So we opted for this little guy:
Same color scheme and materials as the larger pieces.  I love how the stone pieces looked raised but they aren't; everything is on one level.

Unfortunately, it was a month and a half late due to being on back order so it wasn't until last weekend that J was able to pick it up and install it--all while I was home visiting family so naturally the pictures aren't as step by step as what I would have taken.  But he's learning.

J started right in and cut the mesh backing on the tile sheets so they would fit the space.  Thankfully, he didn't have to cut the tiles themselves because they fit perfectly:
That ever so tiny gap at the top of the tile before the bottom of the counter was easily filled in with a thicker line of grout.  You can't even tell it's there unless you bend over and look for it.

And you know the drill....mastic goes up, tile goes down, a little tapping into place and let it set.  Followed by a little sealer:
Which is followed by grout!
Wipe off the excess and admire the good job:
Now we are officially one refrigerator away from a finished kitchen!

This was a nice little project to come home to on Sunday--all done and it didn't require me holding any drywall above my head.  Which we are ALL thankful for.
